Nothing about us without us. This is the basic principle and spirit of Project of Joint Action on Building Inclusive and Integrated Communities, which was initiated by the Yayasan Harapan Sumba (YHS) and supported by MISEREOR (Germany).
Through this project, MISEREOR supports YHS to empower persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups in 5 communities in Southwest Sumba Regency, namely Weerame, Lolo Ole, Kalingara, Wewela and Homba Karipit.
This project will focus on empowering 10 people in each community to become actors of change in their community through capacity building, economic empowerment, organization and advocacy activities.
These 10 actors consist of 5 persons with disabilities, and 5 others are other vulnerable groups outside persons with disabilities, village government, community leaders or other communities that care and committed to facilitate, empower and fight for the rights and interests of the community, especially persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
After being empowered, the actors will be facilitated to build special groups / communities based on their interests, passion and potential to carry out change actions in their community consisting of economic, arts, education, health, tourism and environment based on important issues and agenda of the local community.
Activities supported by MISEREOR are the promotion and dissemination of rights, capacity building (leadership, organizing and advocacy) and economic empowerment. In this project, MISEREOR also supports the development of YHS capacity to be able to facilitate and empower persons with disabilities more optimally.
For this one-year project (January to December 2020), YHS received a grant from MISEREOR of 50,000 Euros or 775 million rupiahs.
